T3 News: North Brisbane based Teacher appointed!

ALAN - Meaning “Rock” HOME BASED EDUCATION

For students who have learning needs that require alternative curriculum to the ACE materials or blended programs.

We have just over 200 students and families located from the Brisbane to Quilpie.

Our full time locally based teacher for the North Brisbane area has had a very successful Semester
and we are looking to appoint a second full time locally based teacher in North North Brisbane to allow growth into the Sunshine Coast .

We have also Appointed a locally based teacher for Toowoomba starting in January 2010.

I will still be completing all placements and working with locally based teachers to provide support.

As at December 16th  we have approximately 15 to 20 student places left.            Phone: Jason Caldwell on 3299 5357.

The ALAN Vision

Our families are looking for more local resources, home visits, workshops and a support system that works for them, not the other way around. Building a large central building miles away, to hold a large number of teachers is very expensive and of little benefit or relevance to students who live in another district -or hundreds of kilometres away.

The most cost effective way to provide this is to have teachers who are based locally, working from a home or Church office. The funds saved in travel costs and building costs can be put back into lowering the provision of learning and library resources, visits and lessons. This decentralised model also keeps the focus on the needs of the students, instead of the operation itself.

It will also allow for an unprecedented percentage (per student) of Government funding to be spent on tangible library resources to support our students’ programs. These resources will be managed with a new cost effective system to streamline traditional processes and turnaround times.

Families will also be encouraged to make suggestions for helpful resources to be purchased. From early readers and instructional videos to chemistry or robotics kits, our Leading Teacher has the experience to realise the importance of budgeting for learning resources.

Future Growth

Our goal is to provide local area Resource Centres, staffed by suitably experienced support teachers who embrace the notion of Home Education, and who live locally. If, for example, there are eventually 40 to 50 students enrolled in the Toowoomba area, then a local teacher would be employed and will be based there. The benefits of this model in service delivery to clientele are many. While maintaining a core Teacher to Student ratio of 1 to 50 or better, this decentralised model will ensure teachers are more accessible for “face to face” support.
