I have had the privilege of serving independent distance education families for 10 years, as the head
Over the last 10 years I have enjoyed working with families on hundreds of student placements and programs to meet individual learning needs and future directional and vocational requirements. Within the lead roles I have held in various Schools of Christian DE my goal has always been to increase the learning outcomes and opportunities available to Home Based Education students and their families. If there is one thing I have learnt in all these years, it is the importance of good advice. Advice from someone who has a broad range of experience. Sometimes it is difficult to receive such advice from someone trying to sell you their curriculum products or from someone who is advertising and pushing for enrollments for Government funding. Advice from friends or other home schooling families can also be very helpful but may be narrow and not suited to your learners needs. I have often met parents who have brought a range of different programs off friends advice only to find it did not suit their learners level or needs. Thus, it is important to check out options and to pray. If you are looking for a school and/or teacher to help they also need to share your Christian faith and values. The teacher should have a love for children not just be teaching in Distance Education to avoid the classroom. If you're looking for a Christian school they should have the desire and ability to serve and work for you and not the other way around. Now, many years down the track, I believe that God has provided an opportunity to start a new registered school with a representative Board. CHBE Ltd. is a registered “not for profit” ASIC approved Company. Most importantly CHBE Ltd is made up of Christian Home Education parents, with a constitution that ensures the future focus and directions of Faith Christian School are representative of stake holder’s needs. Our constitution does not allow Board members to be from the same family, or more than two from the same local church. Board members are also not allowed to employ themselves in fulltime positions using student funds and must be Home Education parents with a strong faith in Christ. These standards, are important to give a stable foundation for future developments and opportunities for our children. Faith has accredition for P-12 Distance Education with an initial intake of approximately 190 to 200. I pray and believe God will continue to open the doors!
