Letters to the Editor

Write to the Newspaper expressing your point of view of:

• The low price farmers receive for their products
• The increasing price of fuel
• Concern about the lack of incentives for young people to stay on the land
• Concern about the false image of farming presented on TV
• Fun aspects of farm life
  Don't forget to back up your point of view with information and facts. 

Advertisement
It is fun to write and advertisement creatively -something tha will attract the interest of a buyer or make the reader feel like they are missing a bargin.

• Sale of farm equipment
• Sale of young animals
• Upcoming show day
• Farm holidays for city people

Manuals
Write a step by step maunual that explains to a city slicker how to:

• Care for your horse 
• Shear a sheep
• Drive the tractor
• Cook something on a campfire
• Travel to various locations on and around farm safely...
• Musteri cattle
• Ride a motor bike
• Crutch Sheep
• Ride a bull at the rodeo .

These topics could also be used for writing a recount. When writing a recount try to focus in on the actual event. If you’re writing about your bull ride, don’t write a page about going to the rodeo and one line on riding the bull and a page about going home!

 Plays or scripts
Write a script for:

• Dialogue between two farmers in a time of persistent drought
• You and a friend sitting around the campfire while out mustering

Lists

• Do a stocktake of everything in the shed
• Essential equipment for the First Aid Kit

Observations
Write a:

• Description of the oldest tree on the farm
• Description of your favourite animal
• The birds that are found on your farm
  You may also take photos to go with your writen observation.

Obviously many of these topics can be written using different text types.
