When Writing Remember (Chart for a students wall. By Jason Caldwell)

1. Always Date your work.

2. Get into the habit of writing neatly.

3. It is often a good idea to start by doing a Brain Storm (Semantic Web) of:

-Events -People Involved

-Feelings -Sights

-Sounds -Smells

-Tastes

4. Try to focus on the main event you are writing about not the things that happened before and after. Order events chronologically.

5. When writing your draft copy concentrate on getting your ideas down in writing. Don’t get side tracked or worry too much about spelling.

6. Use lots of good description so that the reader will feel like they are there.

7. When writing a paragraph, ensure your first sentence is the topic sentence and out lines the main idea of the paragrph.

8. When you think you have finished, read back through it to make sure it makes sense.

9. When you are happy with the story proof read it.
