Here is a list of activities the students can be involved in that compliment their schooling activities:
Getting involved in a youth group…
Start or join an outreach team in your church to share Christ with those who do not know Him.
Start or join a prayer group and start moving some mountains
Building wooden toys and using tools under supervision
Construction activities using recycled containers
Start a stamp collection
Gardening –it is great fun to grow plants and see or eat something that you helped grow. This could also lead onto a small business opportunity and it is not hard to propagate pawpaw plants or other fruit trees and sell them at the markets or church.
Start a lawn mowing round –When I was 14 I had my own lawn mower that I paid off and I had 14 lawns in my round and could make $140 a week in the summer (the equivalent to $500 today).
Looking for bargains or building materials at the Recycle Centre or Tip Shop – this could be a great little buy sell and exchange business if you find out when the centre is first open for the week and get in early, you will not believe what gets thrown away.
Cooking –you could start a market stall.
Collecting Gemstones –you could join a local Lapidary Club and learn how to cut and polish stones. The senior citizens who attend these clubs are usually very caring and giving of their time to help children.
Bible Studies –what a great opportunity we have to learn about our Creator and all he has for us.
Gymnastics –sometimes you can find local clubs that give great instruction but are very reasonable in price.
Photography –With quality digital cameras being so cheap young people have an unprecedented opportunity to have fun with and learn photography. You can take unlimited photos for free. It used to cost us $20 for 30 photos.
Studying the weather
Learning how to care for animals –start a chicken coop and provide eggs for your family… Or get a licence to breed lizards and start breeding them – it’s fun and very rewarding.
Visiting old people and learning from them |

Sewing
Cooking and Cleaning –build into your time table tasks for each student. One in charge of cooking the Bread and sweeping the floors and another washing the dishes and feeding the animals.
Washing –It is very important for children to learn how to be part of a family and support their family. Try hanging a simple clothes line for each child and let one be in charge of hanging out underwear, another all shirts and if you have an older student towels and sheets.
Bike Riding
Skating or skate boarding
Unicycling – you can buy one on Ebay for about $50.
Learning and playing Musical Instruments – I think of all the time I spent watching TV as a boy and wish I had just spent half of that time practicing the guitar… If you watch one hour a day that is 365 hour per year, which is nearly 5000 hours by the time you're 15. If you just spent half of this time learning an instrument you would be a “hot” musician in no time.
Swimming
Surfing – I loved surfing when I was about 13 -17, it is fantastic if you live near a surf beach.
Typing
Letter Writing and Card Making –what a great way to encourage another person.
Camping
Looking after their belongings and organising your room
Art – Sketching & Painting
Carving or whitling –I use to love carving 3D panels of Roses when I was age 10 to 15. It was very rewarding, but you need someone to help you get started and you also need to be very careful. I was careful but still managed to stab and cut myself by accident many times.
Knitting – you can even start with “French knitting” on a cotton reel.
Leather Work – This is a dying Art form and a great potential business.
Writing – It is fun to write your ideas down and share them. I know several students who enjoy writing songs or poetry.
